🌿 About Evergreen Hideout

Welcome to Evergreen Hideout, your go to space for everything gardening! I'm Kutlwano, a lifelong plant enthusiast and passionate gardener who believes that everyone can grow their own fresh vegetables, fruits, and beautiful plants see whether in a backyard, balcony, or community garden.

I started my gardening with just curiosity, some old containers, and a very little hope that maybe something would grow. The very first time I can recall was when a seedling came out of the earth, it was like the universe was sending me a message that even the tiniest start can turn into something beautiful. Since then gardening has been more than just a pastime; it has been my therapy, my teacher, and the source of my happiness that never changes.

Gardening in Soshanguve throughout the years has been like a school of unexpected lessons. The soil may be uncooperative, our summers extremely hot, and the water may be limited at times, but the earth always manages to return the favor. I have killed plants that I were fond of, brought back some that looked dead, and I have even made a feast out of what seemed to be my small wins over life. These experiences shaped not only my garden but also the heart and philosophy behind Evergreen Hideout.


🌿 Behind the Name "Evergreen Hideout"

The name Evergreen Hideout was actually my safe space discovery one quiet afternoon while I was celebrating life with my plants, soaking the Gauteng sun and just listening to the leaves rustle. I figured out this garden was my safe space a hideout from the noise, stress, and the fast pace of the world.

"Evergreen" is the reflection of the continuous development, expectation, and the strength that I can find in my garden even when it is a difficult season. "Hideout" is all about the sanctuary that my garden offers a place to breathe, think, and get back to nature. The two words together mean a place where life is thriving and where anyone can find some calm and be inspired.

My goal at Evergreen Hideout is as clear as a bell:

I am committed to making gardening a beautiful, real, and uplifting experience that any person, thus, a beginner can learn, get support, and have the delight of life growing from the ground.

This is the kind of blog that I would like to see a friend who is always there with you in your garden, coaching, motivating, and honoring your every small victory.

I am a gardener who treats every harvest as a little miracle, makes fun of my own mistakes, and takes great pleasure in the fact that life comes from the earth. If I am not gardening, I am thinking about it. And if I am not thinking about it, I am writing about it.

Through Evergreen Hideout, I want to connect with you my lessons, hardships, and happiness. I am continuing to learn, try out, and find new things and I welcome you to develop with me.

I recall to this day the moment when I first observed the small vine growing in the wire fence, which bordered my property's edge. At first, I barely gave it a second glance merely a weak plant striving to find an adequate location to grow in sunlight.
